The Devil’s Cousin.
The Pagan God, Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, nature of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music, and companion of the nymphs. Half goat and half man.
In the world of tarot, he is known as The Devil, as he tempts people, makes them indulge their sexuality and is kind of a trickster. He is wild and with him people can be wild, be the raw and be the animals we are inside.
I can imagine Pan dancing around the woods after participating in an orgy and his mouth stained red because he ate too many berries.
Oh and he is said to have taught humans how to masturbate. Yep!
At the dawn of Christianity like most of the Pagan deities, Pan was demonised. The Devil or Satan, ruler of Hell, all evil began to look like Pan, half man and half goat. He would tempt people , make them sin and then there souls would be his to burn for eternity.
